Our Cardinal

This is our cardinal. He stops by the feeder every now and again. I think he's gorgeous and I love to sit and watch him. I think he knows I'm there b/c he only stays for a minute. I always thought cardinals were ground feeders but I guess I was wrong (which is a rare occurance, hee hee). Enjoy our Wild America right here in Omaha, NE.

Great videos of both the snake and the cardinal. Really great of the cardinal! I'm with you--never really saw one eat from a feeder before. But it was making the standard feeding chirp. And that snake. W O W. It climbs trees and eats birds? I must have grown up in a kinder, gentler Midwest! Keep it up, oh great hunters.

We have cardinals at our feeder often. I too thought they were strictly ground feeders, but maybe they just feed where it's most convenient? I like how close you were able to get. Good job!

Nice work, Nature Girl! I'm not sure I would have had the guts to get as close to the snake as you did. I think I would be afraid to walk under trees, in the grass, or near any birds if I knew I might come upon such a thing. I am fully aware that there are snakes in NY as well, but I don't often come across them in the burgh. I am much more likely to come across a small, furry mammal, perhaps with a stripe.
